School Programmes now IMarEST accredited

The School is pleased to announce that the undergraduate and M. Sc. degree programmes listed below are now IMarEST (Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology) accredited for a period of four years from the 2008 student cohort intake up to and including the 2011 student cohort intake.  In addition the periods of accreditation are backdated to cover the following academic years 2005/2006, 2006/2007, 2007/2008.

This automatically gives current students free student membership of IMarEST.  Students graduating from an accredited degree programme meet the academic requirements, in part, for registration as a Chartered Scientist and Chartered Marine Scientist.  The back-dating of the accreditation means that former students will be able to by-pass an individual review of their degree programme should they apply for registration. This accreditation will act as an important stepping-stone in the future careers of all marine scientists graduating from SOS.
