OXB1005 Marine Organisms and Habitats Semester 1

Course organiser Dr. Ian Lucas (e-mail oss066@bangor.ac.uk)

This module examines the features of each of the major groups of marine organisms and their evolutionary relationships and associations. Examples from diverse marine habitats including estuaries, rocky shores, salt marshes, coral reefs, sediments and deep sea environments are studied. Attention is given to the physical and chemical properties of these habitats as well as the organisms and communities which occupy them. Major environmental factors affecting marine organisms are briefly discussed and consideration given to the ways in which these organisms adapt structurally, behaviourally and physiologically.
